How much do Package Holidays Romania cost?

If you are looking for the perfect vacation, the first criteria you have in mind is most likely the price. Even if you are not limited by the budget, you need to know the costs so you can plan ahead. The prices of our tours differ depending on several factors:

  • Is it a regular tour or a private itinerary?
  • Is it a Short Break or a 7-days tour?
  • What does the tour include?
  • What type of accommodation do the travelers choose?

First of all, you should know that private itineraries cost more than their regular counterparts because they are organized for your group only and they take place at a date which suits you best. This means that you will benefit from the same services as larger groups, but they will be performed just for you, at the same high quality standards.

Short Breaks are obviously cheaper than 7-days or 11-days itineraries because they involve less accommodations, dinners and tourist attractions. If you take a look at our catalog, you will notice that longer tours which include more special events and more attractions naturally cost more. Regardless of your choice, we guarantee you that the experience is worth it!

Some tours allow you to choose between different types of accommodation, usually either 3* or 5* hotels. The 3 or 4 stars accommodations included in our itineraries are carefully selected by us and provide great services during your stay. Still, if you’d rather choose a 5* accommodation, we can arrange that as well. Just let us know so we can book the hotel and adjust your price accordingly.

On average, expect our 7-days itineraries to cost around €1200, while short breaks revolve around €600-700. Read on for more specific information.

11-Days Study Trips and the 10-Days Halloween from Budapest itinerary

romania-tours-from-budapest
Budapest view

We organize two distinct Study Trips, titled “Transylvania’s Undying Legend” (€1790/1999 for single travelers) and “Dracula Tours for Schools” (€1557/1837 for single travelers*)

*Since these tours depart for groups only, take note that by “Single Travelers” we refer to people who prefer to accommodate alone rather than share a room.

Our 10-days Halloween tour departing from Budapest, on the other hand, costs €1790 or €1999 for single travelers.

Prices for food and transportation in Romania

Our tours usually include breakfasts and dinners. If you want to have lunch, you will have to purchase it yourself. For this reason, you should know the average cost of food in Romania. This way, you can prepare your budget for the journey. According to Budget Your Trip, the average cost of food in Romania is about 104 lei/day, but it can vary depending on what you eat and the type of restaurant you choose.

Meanwhile, according to the same source, travelers spend around 79 lei/person on local transportation. This sum can be different depending on whether you choose a taxi or public transportation. Here are a couple of quotes from Budget Your Trip, related to food and transportation costs:

While meal prices in Romania can vary, the average cost of food in Romania is lei104 per day. Based on the spending habits of previous travelers, when dining out an average meal in Romania should cost around lei41 per person. Breakfast prices are usually a little cheaper than lunch or dinner. The price of food in sit-down restaurants in Romania is often higher than fast food prices or street food prices.

Transportation between cities and towns in Romania costs an average of lei128. Naturally, prices vary by the length of the route, the type of transportation used, and the date.

Is it safe to visit Romania?

Romania is, in general, a safe country and statistics are backing this claim up. For instance, the Global Terrorist Database ranks our country at 138/163, which means that no terrorist attacks have occurred here. Furthermore, the Global Peace Index ranks Romania on position 22/163 countries. This index analyses militarization, society and security and domestic and interest conflict.

The crime rate in Romania is low, ranking below the European average. However, corruption is still at a high level. If you encounter situations where authorities propose a solution which seems like it’s outside the law, you should refuse such an agreement. Sometimes they claim that their proposal is ‘mutually beneficial’, but accepting to take part in these schemes can land you in trouble on the long run. The best course of action is to always insist on legal justification.

Need to Know before traveling on Package Holidays Romania

  • Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
  • Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
  • Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
  • See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
  • Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.
  • Tell your bank you’re travelling and check if your cards will work. Have several payment options.

Driving in Romania

We provide transfer between attractions during our itineraries, so chances are you might not need to drive in Romania at all. Just in case, though, you should know that traffic is generally very crowded in cities and parking spots are hard to find. Outside cities, you may encounter carts and animals on the road.

If you intend to use public transportation within a city, take into account that buses or the subway are much cheaper than a taxi ride. The compromise, though, is that they can also be overly crowded.

On taxi rides you may run into shady drivers who will take advantage of you being foreign and drive you around in circles to increase the amount on the meter. You should always have cash on you because taxi drivers don’t usually carry card readers. An alternative to regular taxis are ridesharing services like Uber and Taxify, which are available in all the big cities.

Pickpocketing

While muggings rarely happen in our country, pickpocketing is, unfortunately, very common. Pay attention to your surroundings and keep your belongings within eyesight. This way, you can avoid thieves who take advantage of crowded places and cut your purse open in order to steal your money. The best way to protect your valuables is to leave them at the hotel’s safe rather than carry them around with you.

Do not accept offers from people who exchange money on the street. These are scammers and their offers are never beneficial to you. Our advice is to look for exchange houses or banks, which are available in every city. Usually exchange houses offer better rates than banks. Also, since this is a frequently asked question, you can pay almost everywhere with a credit card, so you don’t need to carry large amounts of cash with you.

Laws

Romania laws require you to always carry photo ID. You should always have your ID Card or Passport on you. We recommend carrying copies around rather than originals.

Airports, military sites and other secure locations do not allow people to take photos on their premises.

You should also know that penalties for drug offences in our country are quite drastic. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, you can face up to 20 years in jail.

Travel Insurance

Sometimes holidays can take an unexpected turn. You should be prepared for any situation you encounter and the best way to do this is to get your travel insurance. Without one, you or your family can suffer financially if something goes wrong.

Travel Insurance is crucial if you find yourself in need of medical assistance. Healthcare outside your country can get quite expensive. You are unlikely to receive free care or for the cost to be subsidized. Therefore, travel insurance helps you because you can rely on your insurer to cover the necessary payments.
